The Iconic Chicago series, painted in 2005-6, returns to the urban landscape - one of my long-term fascinations. The views are from my studio on the ninth floor of the Fine Arts Building. They put me in the heart of classic Chicago architecture. Instead of straight on portraits of buildings, my viewpoint chopped and cropped them into a mosaic of pattern and texture. I found it equally interesting to observe the effect of light on these objects – external sunlight in the day, and internal illumination at night.
